With all the greyhound adoption stuff going around I would like to remind everyone that greyhounds aren’t necessarily “easy” “dogs”
Like they can certainly be a great first time dog if you understand them, but greyhounds aren’t the same as, say, a retriever
They’re sensitive and their body language is weird and their peak performance looks different than a lot of other dogs (they have a tendency to look malnourished to non-greyhound people bc of their deep chest, high tuck, lean muscle and dolichocephaly)
So what I’m saying is if you want to adopt a greyhound that’s amazing!! But please please please take the time to research them and their needs properly before you do, and make sure you aren’t accidentally spreading misinformation
Greyhound Adoption groups are ALWAYS happy to help with training/education/etc. My family and I have had rescue hounds from Caliente for 20+ years and we constantly get questions about those “weird looking”/”poor skinny” dogs. Hound owners LOVE to talk about their hounds and share knowledge.
!!!!!
Another thing to note and learn about greyhounds is their highly empathic nature. I’ve had greyhounds and Italian greyhounds and their emotional sensitivity is very important to pay attention to. Obviously all dogs are different, but sighthounds tend to be highly intuitive to our behavior and emotional state comparatively to other breeds, in my opinion. As an animal assisted therapist, they have been the best breeds I’ve worked with in this field, but it is extremely important to be aware of this during their training. They’re the best dogs honestly!

Almost ten years and I’ve never connected with another being in the same way. I miss you, my best friend and escape from the world. I’ve been lost since I lost you and I finally feel ready for another love like you. Love with a horse is unconditional and never ending. Such a special experience I hope everyone can feel. I miss you and I know you never meant to break my heart❤️
